Kinja'd!!!

This was my cat, Gary, on Saturday at the vet. She needed some blood work done for her hyperthyroidism. She didn’t want to be caged up, but it was necessary.

And it’s exactly how I felt since Thursday with my former neighbor’s open house. When I came home from work Thursday and Friday evening, what was no more than 13 cars of folks looking at the house, would shrink down to just the realtor within 10 minutes of me being home.

It was like cockroaches scattering when the light came on!

Saturday, I thought I caught a break since the next open house wasn’t until Sunday afternoon. Plus, I was feeling better with my 6th blood pressure medication since New Years’ Day. So much so, that I went outside to do yard work. Had my headphones on, listening to some House music because the four-to-the-floor beat helps me focus. So I spent about 4-5 hours cleaning up.

Too bad it was interrupted. A lot. About once every 15-20 minutes, a car would drive by to stop and look at the hour for sale. Some would drive by one way, turn around and drive back past again. Others w ould add driving behind the house to view the backyard. And a few would get out to walk around the house.

One group decided to stop and ask me questions. I wanted nothing to do with it and told them I didn’t want to be involved. Not that they we’re bad neighbors — far from it. But I did that for 3 reasons:

1) I didn’t want to say anything that could be misinterpreted and affect the sale of someone else’s home,

2) I’m not entitled to a cut of the realtor’s commission, so I’m not helping him or her sale the home for free.

3) I wanted to be left the fuck alone on the first day in 4 months that I felt good and felt confident enough to do something physical.

Needless to say, I stayed in with the blinds closed yesterday. At least I watched Spiderman: Into the Spider- verse (3.5/4 stars IMO).

Also, I have the perfect “comic relief” in a Darwin Award nominee:

Poor kitty. This was not the box he has been asking for.

As for the neighbors, you might as well let them know what they’re in for. Fire up the compressor and get to grinding something, or, something. Consi dering there’s always a chance the new folks will suck, this may work to your benefit.  In fact, how far are you from David Tracy... maybe he can come by an d assist.

My Scooby doesn’t like the cage either. Or the car. But she handles it with grace.

We don’t get involved with the sales on our street either. We do like to chat with the prospective neighbors when they are brought around though. We kind of like to see what we may be getting. We are a fairly cohesive group, and we like to get a preview of whether new members are going to become part of the crew or keep to themselves.

my ex would keep a travel crate out and consistantly put cat treats in the cage, occasionally closing the door for a big while they were eating treats . So when it was time to go to the V E T it didnt stress them out so much to be in the box.

The animal kingdom got together and had a meeting, the general consensus being, “Man, fuck this guy!”

Lmao. Too far from Tracy. I really don’t care who my neighbor is as long as the house is so long as they are buyers and not renters (I’ve been surrounded by as much as 3 households that are renting — none bad, just don’t talk to them because they aren’t staying ).

Also , Gary is a she.

I'm a keep to myself guy because I'm alone in a neighborhood full of families or retirees.

I would do the same, but Gary doesn't care for treats.  So I just leave the cage out for a day or two.

We didn’t really get involved as neighbors until we had a child. It’s just the way life flows.

Exactly!  I would be more involved if I had a live-in girlfriend, or dare I say it, was married.  I just pay my annual HOA dues and do my best to not be in violation of any rules, despite everyone else breaking at least one (parking on the street after 11pm, mostly).

We didn’t either. Then we met the neighbors and their kids and decided to actively avoid them.

That makes me sad, but not surprised.  It’s dumb luck what neighbors you get.  That’s why we feel so blest with our neighborhood.  Our kids play together on the street while we sit and drink.  We all go to each others’ houses, etc.  The elderly lady across from us has been a third grandmother to my daughter since she was born.  It’s really rare.

It is rare. We’ve never had good luck with neighbors. These aren’t the worst I’ve had, but they could be better.
